    It’s supposedly has to with overwatering. I had it happen to a little Mexican Fence Post after bottom-watering too many times…I think.

      That's what I thought but I don't see how it was overwatered. I don't water my cacti until they're bone dry and I haven't had a problem with any of the others. Any idea what I can do about the black?

      Mine just sort of imploded, starting with the black spot. I believe the issue with mine was “environmental” plus I treated it several times for mealies. (It looked like this).

      Saving it…yeah, cut those tops.

      Going to do that today. I've had corking happen from stress before but not black spots. 🤷‍♀️

    I'm thinking over-watering would cause rotting at the base rather than at the top. Too high of humidity can be a problem because then bacteria can grow at the top. Some people just cut the rotted part off so that it doesn't travel down the plant.

    I've never had to do that, cut the top of the plant off I just read about someone doing it.
