I've been growing my first plant, a Jade cutting I got from my Nana. She's doing really well so far and I wanted to share! I'm not sure when I should repot. Planta says March, but she's getting pretty big and the pot Nana gave me doesn't have drainage holes (she put some kind of insert in the bottom to raise it up though).

wait until spring and water very sparingly for now to account for lack of drainage and slow growth during the winter. jade is very hardy and can withstand literally anything with the exception of overwatering. when you repot, put her in terra cotta but you probably don’t need to get a bigger pot — only one size up if you do

Remember to clip the tops right above the nodes. Jades love getting haircuts! Check out a YouTube video on the subject.

You can cut a jade anywhere and it will send out two new growth points. In native climates these are grown as hedges and trimmed like hedges - bluntly lol. I wouldn’t worry about pruning this one yet, it’s still very small

About how big/old do you think I should wait? Right now it's about 7 inches tall and I received the cutting in July.

The way I understand it: if you’re wanting a nice, thick trunk on the plant you should start pruning early so that it will thicken up on the bottom.

Jade plants are succulents so they need to get bone dry between waterings to replicate it’s natural habitat and avoid causing root rot, also never get water on the plant because that will cause it to rot as well. And they do best in long periods of direct sunlight.

Looks to be a plastic pot. Punch or drill holes in bottom for drainage.

Not plastic! My nana put some kind of plastic insert with holes inside so that it's not sitting in water. It'll get a better pot with holes when it's time to repot
