Question for anyone who has a thriving Burros Tail in 100+ weather.🤪 I live in North East Texas. I grew one fine last year until it got 100+. I got another one this year planning to keep it out of the intense heat. I thought that was its only issue but I’m beginning to think this is just one of those plants that need more care until they are bigger. I had it out in the spring but we get daily soaking rains thanks to lake effect. I brought it in my garage, repotted it, and placed it in front of a fan. Had it under a 5000K grow light, looked sad and stopped growing. So I put it in my kitchen under a 6500K grow light. It got sunburn. Ok, I moved it to my porch where it can get partial sun, but is shaded. Got knocked over, so I moved it to my front garden with morning sun and shade. Last week I saw it looking wilty and remembered it hates the heat. I quickly brought it in to my kitchen, watered it and moved it under the grow light. Then I remembered as I was falling asleep that it got sunburned there before, so I got up and moved it back in the garage under the 5000K light. It’s 90 in there so cooler than inside and there’s a fan in there, but it doesn’t really thrive there. It’s in a 2ā€ pot, gets watered when the lower leaves feel less firm, and gets fertilized with a mild succulent fertilizer. I thought about putting it in my bathroom window with my variegated pothos, but I don’t know if that’s enough light.🤪 Most of my succulents are doing great but this one is giving me a run for my money.šŸ˜„ What am I missing?šŸ˜…šŸ¤Ŗ

Sounds high maintenance. 😁 I struggle to raise succulents, in general. High Texas heat has me watering every three days for many of my outdoor plants.

Yeah, some can handle it but some certainly can not!šŸ˜„ I always forget, when buying a new succulent, that full sun does not mean the same thing here as it might elsewhere. But a lot will do great in part sun/part shade here. I have an ogre ears and a gollum that are happy. I have several Kalanchoe that are doing great. Purple Heart, Anacampserosis Verigata Sunrise is doing well too. Aloe and several varieties of elephant bush. Grapetoveria Purple Delight is doing great as well. I even have some leaf propagations of that growing outside. I also have some full sun echeveria out there too. They all slow down but don’t sunburn and keep growing slowly! They definitely need watering often though! Every 1-3 days for most of mine! They should perk back up and grow faster when it’s back down to the 80-90’s finally in September!🤪

And yes, I’m beginning to feel like burro’s tail is high maintenance.🤪

You have skills to grow so many successfully. I have to live vicariously watching others grow them. šŸ˜„

Well, thank you 😊 I will accept the compliment, BUT I will also add that I kill some plants every year too. 🤣 I try to only keep one or two completely new kind of plant at a time until I figure those out. But excitement gets the best of me and I get more than that sometimes. Once I feel comfortable with a certain kind of plant, then I let myself get more similar varieties that have the same care needs. I’ve been taking care of plants since I was a kid and have done so in Texas since 2006. I have killed so many over the years, but through that, I have learned what not to do.šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜… Our current home came with a sprinkler system and my teenager helped me hook up drip irrigation from that to my plants. That has helped immensely, as has the encouragement of my husband and kids to take the time to garden because they see how much I enjoy it. I also enjoy looking at everyone’s plants. It’s so fun to watch things grow even if you can’t grow them yourself.😊
