never had those but i feel like with most succulents you should generally worry about overwatering

A lot of people are recommending to try to avoid overwatering because the most common way a succulent dies is from overwatering and subsequent root rot. You’re gonna want to let the soil completely dry out between waterings. You can go into the settings of each plant and change how many days before the app alerts you to water them if you notice they need more time than what the app says before being watered again. If you’re scare of overwatering, terra cotta pots can help, but I like a good plastic pot with lots of drainage holes on the bottom. If these plants don’t have pots with drainage holes, they need to be repotted.

I can give some other tips if you’d like 1. I bottom-water my succulents to help them develop a strong root system, but it also helps prevent attracting pests to the top of the soil and overwatering. If you’re new to bottom-watering, look up “how to bottom water a plant” on YouTube and you’ll find a ton of short and easy tutorials. It’s a really easy change to watering habits that I always recommend to anyone with succulents. 2. Do not wipe the white “film” off your succulents! Don’t pour water on them either, cause this “film” acts like a natural sunscreen for your plant, and they don’t regenerate it when it’s removed, and will burn in the bright light they often need without it. I bottom water my succulents to also help prevent touching or removing the film during waterings. 3. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cacti and Succulent Mix for my plants. You’re gonna want a well-draining mix that helps the water drain from the drainage holes between watering and keep your plant from sitting in too much water. I’d personally avoid anything Miracle Grow brand in terms of their soil, even their cactus mix, especially if you live in a humid area in the summer. I’ve never had a good experience with any of their soil mixes and I often find beginners on this app having problems with the soil not being well-draining enough for their plants and leading to root rot VERY fast. Their perlite and orchid bark are alright, and great to add to a soil mix to make it extra chunky and aid in aeration and drainage for a plant. I recommend Espoma cause I don’t need to add extra stuff to it before repotting my plants for it to drain well, and it’s pretty cheap where I live. They’re at my Ace Hardware for around $7-9 and my local nurseries swear by their stuff too (and despise miracle grow. Refuses to sell it.)

      4. This is a simple tip, but rotate your plant a bit every time you water it. Might sound a little strange, but turning it a little every once in a while helps the plant get even coverage of sunlight and keeps it from growing taller on one side and looking a little funky. If you’re new to figuring out how much light you get out of your windows, try to gauge how many hours of steady sunlight you see coming out of them. Something around 1-4 hours of sunlight would be your north-facing windows, 5-7 hours are your west/east-facing windows, and 8/+ hours are your south windows. Most succulents and cacti enjoy a good south window, but can survive in a west/east facing window. If you don’t have bright enough windows for it, or find they start to be unhappy from potential lack of light, you might wanna invest in some grow lights for them. 5. If you’re new to repotting, please don’t stress! Try to avoid repotting them in the winter to reduce the risk of shock. Another way to reduce the risk of shock is to repot them on the day they need watering, THEN water them right after repotting. Some also wait until watering day then water it before repotting to loosen the soil and make it easier to remove some of the old soil and replace it with a fresh mix too, but both options help prevent shock after repotting. When picking a new pot, you want a pot that’s only around 1-2 inches bigger than the circumference of the root ball. You don’t wanna risk putting them in too big of a pot cause that can lead to overwatering and root rot, and many succulents enjoy being fairly snug in their pots and getting a little rootbound. 6. Last one is another little trick, but a pretty common one on here. An easy way to check if the soil is dry enough to be watered again is to use a toothpick or bamboo/barbecue skewer and stick it all the way down into the soil. Pull it out, and if the soil sticks to the skewer, you can wait on watering it. If it doesn’t stick to the skewer, it’s probably dry enough to water. That’s about it. Once you get the hang of it, they’re pretty low maintenance plants.
