Hi everyone! I have a HUGE moon cactus (I think) that is at least 25 years old and I want to maybe cut it down and make two or more plants. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice for how best to do this? Thank you so much!!

wow this is wild…looks like prickly pear grafted onto i have no idea what, but definitely not your run of the mill grafted moon cactus. curious to see what other responses you get here 🧐
2 Me gustaok google lens is flagging it as possibly Brasiliopuntia? you should be able to remove any of those paddles and set them onto some soil to root
2 Me gustaI know right? It’s definitely not a run of the mill moon cactus but I just went with that when I couldn’t find anything else 😂
0 Me gustaOh my gosh, thank you! I’m going to look this up right now
0 Me gustaI would have have thought mine was dying looking like this. I’m new to all of this though lol I hope to keep mine alive that long!!
1 me gustaHaha I thought it was too! But apparently that brown part is called corking and the cactus does that to help hold itself up. So cool!
3 Me gustathe browning/woody parts is called “corking” — they do this to stabilize themselves as they get larger
2 Me gustaAh! Katie you beat me to it sorry 😂
1 me gustaI was going to agree that there’s no way this thing is a moon cactus! It’s so crazy cool!! Can’t wait too see the aftermath of chopping!
