Question: I just picked up a Stapelia hirsuta, and I want to get it to bloom in the summer/fall. It’s relatively small right now, but is there anything I could do to improve its bloom chances? Any specific lighting/watering?

Lots of light! Mine lives outside from last frost to first frost (I live in the middle of the uk) and it blooms at the end of the summer. It may not flower the first year as mine only started to bloom when it was quite crowded in the pot.

Hello! Mine started putting out flowers once it was root bound and nestled front and center in a south-facing window. I’m in southern Oregon and it blooms in October. It’s so odiferous, however, that it gets relocated to a west window until the blooms are gone to reduce the midday stench in the sun! Have fun!
