Judging from the overhead pic, I would suggest the leaf drop is from overwatering. It looks like possible edema on the leaves and the soil appears way too organic. Watering routine should be waiting until the entire pot is bone dry and the leaves feel rubbery. Then drench until entire pot is moist, with water draining from bottom. Soil should look almost gravel like with only about 20% organic mixed in. Direct morning sun is great with rest of day in bright light. Direct sun means the sun is visible from window, not just bright sunlight. And it will prop easily. Cut off top rosette with enough stem to anchor. Allow stem end to callous over for a day. Then pot in succulent/cactus soil. Moisten the soil around the stem a few times a week until roots grow.

thanks for the help! quick question, would a mix of sand and organic be good for succulents?

Yeah it’s good for succulents but it should be a fine-grained sand mix. There shouldn’t really be any corse sand

For my succulent I put it out of direct sunlight. It does need sunlight but not direct sunlight because direct sunlight can start to damage it
