   I did a cactus seed mix before. I used regular potting soil, which may have been okay for the tiny sprouts but was probably not the best choice. I had noticeably different results with the different species in the mix; some died off quickly while others were happier about how often I watered them. The baby sprouts are absolutely adorable and it's worth doing just to see the cute little guys. The one cactus (a barrel type) that survived my many mistakes grew to a decent size fast enough (took several months) and eventually died of root rot because I used the wrong soil. My current cactus is a cutting off a big one; it has proper cactus soil and likes being watered roughly once a month. I also have some smaller cuttings of the same species and those have been doing fine with no watering except getting secondhand misted daily when I spritz my orchids. The key with cacti is "no really, it'll be okay if you don't water it for a month"

   Trying now using seeds from a spent flower on my rat tail cactus. Have heard it takes a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiile!

     Are those little green dots babies? How exciting. I broke down and bought a heat mat and some seeds. Had to get the heat mat because I keep my house pretty cold.
