I saved these little ones from Walmart about a week and a half ago. They were all pretty much falling out of their pots. Needless to say I got after the Garden center person and told him they need to speak to the company that takes care of their cacti so they could be sold much healthier. How do I tell if these are still alive, or if it’s just a husk of what they once were?
Gotta check the roots. On 1 🖐️: Solid, white/green, healthy looking, firm-> chance remains & id cut off dead edges to allow energy to go into new spring growth. Be patient. 🤞 Other 🤚: Roots mushy, black, unhealthy looking, light weight & dried thru? Hollow? -> ☠️
0개 좋아요 They each had little tiny roots to them, and I didn’t want to take the chance of leaving them in the dried out. I guess it was potting soil. They were in any longer than need be, so I planted them into a cacti/succulent mix and gave them a little bit of water (as I didn’t want to drown them.) Right now they are in a small 2 inch terra-cotta pot with drainage hole under a plant light. Really hoping they make it through as the crested snake cactus looked really neat. As an addendum, hubby just purchased a Peruvian apple cacti for me, which should arrive on Friday, very excited! With all these plants, lizards, and a dog, we’re gonna have to get a bigger place. Wish SSDI paid more than they do.
