I grew this saguaro from a seed and ive had it for 2 maybe 3 years and i dont know what im doing wrong. Its planted in a miracle gro cactus mix and theres rocks at the bottom of the jar because i thought it might help with drainage since there isnt a hole in the bottom and i put a cork lid on top of the jar. I just repotted it today because i got it in a kit and i thought i should use different soil. Any tips?? I know they take awhile but people say it will grow an inch in 1-2 years and ive had it for longer and one is about an inch and the other looks like its on its last breath.

Looks very humid for cacti to me. If you’re putting a cork in the top you’re keeping all moisture in which it won’t like. Cacti won’t grow well in a terrarium style setting.

Okay thanks!! I will take the cork off. Do you know if i should change the soil or is the cactus mix good? Ive seen people use sand and rocks opposed to dirt.

I would probably take it out of the jar as Kakes has said below. They need a dry as possible environment. Cacti mix is fine but it needs to be much much drier.

oh no. get that cactus out of that jar ASAP. it needs drainage holes and airflow. this is not a good set up for a cactus. the jar and the soil look soaking wet, repot the cactus in dry soil in a small pot with drainage holes. the pot should be filled to the brim with soil (use a super gritty/sandy mix)

cacti are like sponges and can soak up tons of water. but just like a sponge, if you don’t let it dry out between waterings, it will start to get moldy and die. when you water, cacti, it’s good to bottom water so they can soak up the amount that they want. leave the plant (pot and all) in a bucket of water for 20 minutes and then let it drip dry. when the soil is completelyyyyy dry, you can water it again.
