plantgeekif it's still green, cut it to about 2 nodes. if it's yellowing or drying out, all the way down. if it's yellowing, it has to grow a new one.

BeanieWeenieIf the stem is still healthy you can cut it between the last closed node and the first open node. But I’ve heard cutting it all the way back can produce more and bigger blooms. I’m testing the theory this season. I rescued a clearance orchid and cut her all the way back but the one I was gifted, I plan to prune to the first closed node.

The I’ve also heard them referred to as eyes. Because the ones closer to the top have opened and aren’t viable anymore after blooms disappear. When you chop between and open and closed eye, a new stem will sprout from the closed node. If you chop to the base a totally new stem will sprout.
