Okay so I saved this guys off the side of the road (free cuttings box) the bulb is hanging on by a thread! Should I just pot that off and plant on it own?! Would that help or hurt?

It's not going to hurt the plant, cut it and try to propagate. It could take a month or 2 to root, so have patience 😂. I'll be putting it in water and in an enclosed plastic to keep humidity high, based on my experience, it roots faster.

Oh, wait for the cut to heal before you do so.

That looks like the fruit of the opuntia (prickly pear) cactus since it’s flowering. The fruit should be bulb shaped. I can’t tell from the photo. The skin will smooth out as the fruit ripens and the flower falls off. Some fruit turn bright red. I recommend letting it finish flowering.

You can let the fruit ripen and use the seeds for planting. I’m not sure how long it takes to ripen.
