I just got a Burros tail succulent the other day and every time I try to have a succulent it always dies! Any advice or tips would be helpful! Itâs in a window sill with evening partial sun, planted in cactus soil and in a terracotta pot!

I donât have experience with this particular succulent, but I have several others. I think if youâre looking for general advice, thereâs a lot out there - on this app, or elsewhere on the internet - so Iâm not sure that I can provide any particularly unique or insightful tips. But in my experience, most succulents like lots of light (you may need a grow light to supplement, depending on the plantâs needs) and are VERY easily overwatered. My first few succulents died too, so I get it! Sometimes itâs a matter of trial and error. The last thing Iâll comment on is the soil - I think a lot of whatâs marketed as âcactus soilâ is still not ideal for succulents/cacti. I wouldnât say you need to repot it from whatever itâs in now, just be mindful that it might retain water for longer than you want it to. If you give the plant more sunlight, itâll dry faster! Good luck!
3 gillningarI have a Burros tail too. I have had her a few years now. I just propagated/chopped and repotted all of my succulents in deeper pots, they were outgrowing the shallow pots I originally planted them in and they were getting leggy. I have them in a west window and they get lots of sun. I let it completely dry out between watering but pay close attention so they donât go dry for too long.
1 gillaI kill a lot of succulents and cacti, but I have found terra cotta pots, like you have are better than plastic. The soil Iâm using now is basically little gravel, like bonsai soil. They donât seem to like lots of soil so the squat pots have worked better than tall ones. Extra soil holds extra water.
4 gillningarGet a wooden chopstick. Slide down the side of the pot to the bottom when planta suggests watering. Check chopstick for moisture. DO NOT WATER until that chopstick comes out completely dry.
3 gillningarMore sun and less water than youâd think reasonable đ
