Is there any chance of salvaging my aloe? By the time I got up the courage to investigate and repot, the roots are totally rotted off 😢 Can I somehow encourage new root growth?

I’ve had this! As ^^^ said, cut all the brown/rotten portion off, let it callus over for 1+ weeks and then you can put it in water with tons of light. It took foreeeeerrver, but it worked. I repotted into soil once I was happy with the roots. I think most people just don’t let it callous over for long enough and end up with rotten plants. I like water because I can monitor the growth, but you can do it in whatever your preference is. These actually have root nodes, but they are significantly more subtle then other noded plants. Feel around between the rings until you find a small smooth bump. Just make sure your cutting has a minimum of 2 nodes (more is better if possible aka you’d leave more rings and cut lower down the stalk).

Thank you so much for the helpful replies. I’m still fairly new to being a plant lady and really appreciate the sharing of knowledge on this app. I think I found a couple of nodes and trimmed off as little as I could below them. This is how we’re looking now… Does that look like a safe spot to stop my trimming or do I need to take off more? Also, would it be beneficial to trim the remaining spikes/leaves, to let this poor plant out all its energy into roots?
