Soooo, I’m wondering if someone can tell me what’s wrong with my prickly pear if there is anything wrong with it. I got the original cutting (the biggest bottom piece in the middle that is rooted) on June 4th. I’ll post what it looked like when I first got it and put it into dirt. As you can see, it has done really well as far as growth. It’s grown 3 new lobes and seemed to be doing really well! I guess my main concern is how droopy looking the lobes look. Is that meaning there is something wrong? Are are they maybe too heavy to support themselves? Any and all feedback would be soooo much appreciated! I really want to keep this plant alive so I can get another one (of different variety) so I can try to get them to produce fruit!

The potting mix is holding water too long and/or overwatered. A cactus needs potting mix labeled for cacti. It contains very little ‘dirt’ and lots of gravel type material for excellent drainage. Cacti root can’t sit in wet soil or it will rot. Repot in cacti potting mix. They can go a week or two between watering at this size. Prickly pear will be less puffy and start to flatten when drying and needs water. 🍀🪴
