Hi Eva!, It looks like mold!! 😭😭 You need to water less and you need better drainage soil so the roots can breathe and so there air flow.

Uh oh, that confirms my suspicions. Any ideas on how to have better drainage? And I water every two weeks or so, should it be once a month?

So the mold probably only came because the roots were unable to breathe. If your soil mix is 50% soil 25% perlite and 25% orchid bark it could help with air circulation. You should probably water every month. But don’t do it strictly, do when the soil is BONE dry.

it looks overwatered. i find it helpful to use weight to test the water levels in the pot. if it feels like you’re holding an empty nursery pot, it’s probably time to water. i pick up my succulents when planta reminds me to check on them and often snooze for a week or more. it may be helpful to learn the weight of a fully watered plant too, so next time you water your cactus (when the pot feels empty) i’d recommend holding it for a moment to try to gauge the weight vs when it was dry i’d also like to note your cactus will almost definitely benefit from being placed in a slightly larger pot this spring

He was in a pot that was too small and I repotted him, his roots just haven’t spread out yet. Thank you for the advice on weight though!!
