I am trying to be sure that this is normal or scale. It came with these spots that look like wax

Hi! What do the spots feel like? Are they soft? What sort of substrate is below the rocks, and how moist is it? Also, how dry/humid is the air?

I tried to remove it with a Qtip & isopropyl alcohol and it didn’t do anything so I put a little sulfur on it and apologized for the intrusion. I think I looked at 50 different pictures yesterday and it does look like a character trait like corking. It is as firm as the skin around it. I’m am feeling relieved that she’s ok 😮‍💨

I was going to say “use sulfur” because that does look like scarring. Speaking of intrusions, I cleaned up one plant’s scale, and it turned the wool purple. It doesn’t seem made, though lol.

That’s neat! Mealy bugs are red inside and used for dye for fabric and food. I’m dealing with a perfect storm of thrips and bad fertilizer! And my sundews are not happy with the drop in humidity so I pruned them and put them in a terrarium.
