At the end of the dig, the owner told me take as much shale as I want. I didn’t have plants at the time, so I “only” took around 30 pounds for no good reason than decorating the yard. After a few years, most of the pieces froze/cooked/split into thin layers and revealed fossils. A guy painting my house had to remind me, “You know you have trilobites in your yard?”
