Starting to add pea stones to the tops of my cactus collection, any tips on how this changes their care? Located in zone 10a, this is only a portion of my collection! Thanks!

It looks nice. It will slow evaporation on the surface soil a bit so just keep that in mind. You may find when you water the soil underneath will float up a bit and cause the decoration to look dirty but if you try not to pour water directly on the stones by pouring it over the back of a spoon so it rains down a little more gently or pour directly on the succulent or cactus so that it runs over the plant and gently into the soil. You may have to blot water droplets off the plant if you do the second suggestion so the droplets don’t cause burn from any light source.

Or you can bottom water. But yeah I used these more for decoration. Can say it really changed the care. They look great btw! 😊

Be careful. Sometimes they keep the soil too wet. I stopped using gravel on the top after I lost three succulents.

Is that an Echinopsis “Cometa” (right of the Astrophytum)? I saw a random variety of Echinopsis yesterday that included one. So now it’s haunting me :) (What everyone else said about this could potentially interfere with evaporation).
