If they look like they rotted, it may be the rocks on top. I had to remove all of mine from my cacti because it was holding the water in.

It’s a euphorbia, not a cactus but I agree with the other poster that heavy rocks on top may have been the reason. They trap moisture in the soil and inhibit air flow around the roots. Plus it may have also had scale.

Hopefully not because I have 61 other cacti and succulents that were next to it
2 Mi piaceSorry for your loss. I noticed this issue yesterday with one of my cactus and had to do the same. For this guy, I potted mine in so much loose rock and very little “dirt.” The soil is so sparse that I doubted it was getting nutrients. You can do it!
