Succulent Sharing Saturday! This is P.C. my Pencil Cactus. (Or also known as Fire-stick Cactus if you can get the right combination of cooler fall weather and less sun. Hard to do in Philadelphia normally.) I got P.C. In 2001 from a small grocery store window. I thought “Awe how cute. A mini Cactus with its arms up like a big Arizona Cactus. Well I had no idea what this guy turns into. By 2022 Spring he was all over the place, huge and sprawling. I hated it. By Summer 2022 I gave him a severe haircut back to his slim shape. I also gave him a new pot at the time. 3 weeks later the Grimm Rooter came, the equivalent of the Grimm Reaper for humans but the Grimm Rooter comes for plants. P.C. was dying because he was drowning in his new pot. Not enough perlite. I changed out the dirt and he recovered. As for the Grimm Rooter I told him he could take the African Violets that had become a pain to maintain. Summer 2023 and P.C. got a new pot. He loves being outside May thru October, maybe even to November if it’s nice out. I just need to find a stylist for the crazy growth and look. I can’t go through another trim with me feeling like I’m Joan Crawford cutting Christina’s hair because it has setting solution. Two original pics and two now pics.

Oh does anyone else find it strange how the app here displays in red something like… DANGER! Insufficient light for this plant! And yet for other plants, like P.C. here, the app says nothing. I would think due to how it loves to grow it would need more light than the rest of its Cactus Cousins. Never a peep out of the app about P.C.’s lighting. But lit his Cousin T.C. Next to him, a Toothpick Cactus, and the app goes crazy telling me… DANGER! Your Toothpick Cactus does not have enough light. Move him. Save him! Leave the others! Hurry! I hate drama apps that scream Warning and Danger.

LOL! The Grimm Rooter is hilarious! I won’t feel so bad the next time I lose a plant. I will blame the Grimm Rooter. NEVER would have guessed Philly. Your house has a cool New Mexico vibe. I like it. I’m a brand new plant parent and don’t know what I’m doing quite yet. I know your pain about growing succulents up North. I’m just outside of Toronto.

Toronto! Oh my! I have an a former San Francisco roommate who is in Toronto. He was born there. And I myself am an Amirault descendant from Amirault’s Hill in Nova Scotia. My Great Grandparents and and 6 of their 10 kids were born there. My Grandfather was 9 of 10 so he was born in the Essex County area of Massachusetts. I always said I’d love to live in Canada except for the cold. But thanks to Climate Change I’ll be able to move there and it’ll be like Old Philadelphia. ☺️

Oh …so Philadelphia, like most cities creates its own climate. Philadelphia itself exists in a basin, so always moist. And even though we are all the way on the other side of New Jersey, from its Atlantic Ocean coasts, we get a lot of sea air masses. The city generates heat, draws in sea air across New Jersey. Because we are in that basin and air pulls in drying things out we get a lot of pollens. Good side of it all is…wait I cant think of any. Oh only an hour drive to Atlantic City beaches. ☺️

I fellow Canuck!! I knew we would get along. I hope you have fingers crossed on one hand for the Blue Jays tonight!! As for the cold, due to climate change we will have palm trees soon enough. You are welcome back anytime.

I both laughed out loud and shuddered over Joan Crawford. My mom and grandmother took me to Mommie Dearest when it came out, which means I was ten years old. P.C. is amazing!
