Warning about fake flowers ! So - I had this cactus with these cute flowers on, but I wasnt sure if they were real or fake. I asked this circle and got mostly people saying they looked fake. They didn't look like right kind of flower, they weren't growing out of the areolas, etc. but I was still very confused because I was SURE they werent glued on, I could see they were "growing out" Today I decided to just pluck one out with tweezers and have a look. To my shock the flowers were all stuck inside of my cactus with long sticks. Not glued on. I'm not sure if theyre real flowers from some other plant with toothpick kind of sticks or just fake flowers altogether. But I'm pretty sure this is not how cactuses grow flower. It's left huge deep holes all over my cactus:( Has anyone ever seen this before? No one seemed to know about this kind of thing when I was figuring out if they were fake flowers or not. I'm in England, so I don't know if this is just something they do in the UK? I thought I'd share to warn anyone else who has these type of "flowers" and of course, if I have somehow managed to get this wrong.

I bought a very, very pretty moon cactus with a large, orange flower on it. For a long, long time the flower stayed the same. That is when I started googling. It was extremely hard to believe the flower was fake. It was put in the cactus with a long stick as well. I am in the us. I absolutely hate stores that do this!!! It died from a “puncture wound” a week or two later. 😭

Oh no!!! I really hope my cactus survives the wound :(

It will scab over. Don’t worry, it’ll survive. Sometimes a damaged cactus will even start to put out pups or grow new arms to compensate for the damage.

Hi there, I’m not a PPS MD, a Plastic Plant Surgeon ☺️ so I cannot speak about any harm caused by the piercings. I’m taking a guess, to start you are feeling deceived. No where was there information by the seller that the succulent had flower piercings. It was a deceptive sale by not informing buyers of that info. Many plants are sold with bling. I’m not a fan of it myself. On the brighter side of succulent flowering…after 50+ years on this planet I finally have a succulent that produced this yellow party favor right in front of my daily eyes! And I have another on the way!
