Volver a The Cactus & Succulent Circle

My plant has always grown straight up but now it leans outward (mostly to one side even though I rotate it every day). Is this a normal growth pattern for zz plants? The 2 large shoots in the center are new growth and the leaning started once they began to unfurl leaves. The plant is by a window facing a porch so it does not get much direct sunlight. Another detail I noticed is that the rhizomes are starting to become exposed. Otherwise the leaves look healthy and glossy. Grew up in a family of notorious black thumbs, so any insight is appreciated!

it could just be that the stems are starting to bend from weight. that’s what my ZZ plant is doing, although mine bends quite a bit more lol. gl tho!! it looks very healthy

It looks a lot like mine! And I think when the leaves get so long they just lean from the weight of the leaf.

I ordered a ZZ and it came with all its stems drooping pretty bad, almost to the point where the roots couldn’t hold in the dirt. What I did was get some garden Velcro and wrapped a loose circle around the whole plant which slightly straightened all my branches. I then made sure to put it in a really sunny spot to see if it would help “harden” the stems. It seems to have worked, after a few weeks I removed the Velcro and the plant stood up straighter I don’t know if yours you could really do that but maybe get a bamboo stick and stick it in the pot near the base of that shoot and then support it temporarily with the stick

That’s the same crazy way mine grows too. I put some coir over the potatoes when they start to show. Zz plant is very hard to kill and drought tolerant. I only turn mine a couple times a year and it seems happy 😊
