Hello everyone, I got my three mixed Echeverias at the same time (around two months ago) and they were doing great. The middle one started blooming right after I got them and since then it started losing every leaf under the blooms. Are they trying to kill my plant? Should I cut them off and let the plant recover? They’re not overwatered, as you can see the other two are thriving! Any suggestions will be of great help! Thank you!

I know that with Venus fly traps they say too cut followers off because it takes all the plants energy and can kill it off. That is what happened for me. So I assume this could be the case here aswell with how you described it. If the other is doing great and thriving and that is the only difference then I think cut them off

Yes I know!! But if it kills the plant for little beauty I rather just get rid of it. Can’t have best of both worlds I guess:(

      Echeveria are not monocarpic.

Echeveria blooms do not hurt the plant. All my Echeverias bloom regularly. All three of yours are not getting enough light. That’s why the leaves are flattening. They are trying to get as much light as possible by exposing more tissue. I would also add more grit to the soil. It’s too organic. I added a picture of a different species but see how compact the leaves are and how they are pointing up? That’s how yours should be growing.

Ahhh interesting!!! I don’t know much about succulents I’ve only just got some myself but that is good to know! Was just my natural assumption with my past experiences with plants that don’t regularly bloom 🙂

Thank you!!! Can’t do much about light, they’re at the window and take as much light as my nyc apartment can get (direct in the morning but I’m on the second floor so I know it’s not much). I’ll definitely repot them using a succulent soil and try also with fertilizer. Should I leave the blooms and put the rest of it (where the other leaves used to be) in the soil?

If you have a lamp nearby you can point at it, makes a big difference. You don’t need a ‘plant lightbulb’ but if yours isn’t giving off much light you could swap for one.
