Hello! I received this succulent as a gift. Does anyone know what type of plant this is? Trying to figure out what it needs for care but there was no name/instructions with it. TIA!

This is a jade plant!! They’ll need super bright, direct light, and only water when their leaves get a little wrinkly and bendy and the soil is all the way dry. Super fun and overall easy to care for!

i don’t recommend waiting til the leaves get soft, this causes stress and damage to the plant, which over time can kill. you’re basically inflicting repeated droughts on your succulents this way

Yes and repeated droughts are common in this plants native environment of South Africa. This is perfectly safe for this plant and most succulents.

just because it’s common in nature doesn’t mean it’s ideal for your houseplant… they have decreased resistance to drought and rain and storms after years of being bred in greenhouses. your response was unnecessary, we’re allowed to have different opinions

Personally I believe the best plant care method for me is to mimic the plants native environment as closely as possible (misting, making proper soil mixes, letting them sit in the rain, etc.), that’s what I’ve had the most success with. But you’re welcome to do whatever you think works for you, and I’ll keep doing what has been making my plants happy.
