Hi!! So I got a Calandiva today at Trader Joe’s. Honestly it was an impulse buy and I really want to take care of it and see it thrive. I’ve read a bunch of articles and they all say that they bloom late winter and spring, and the flowers last around 4-6 weeks. But it’s the middle of summer and the flowers are still here…? Do I leave them alone? Should I be pruning them already? Any help is welcome :)

I like to think of plants as hormonal. My mom has several Christmas cactus that bloom twice a year or in the spring. When they’re usually supposed to bloom once a year, around thanksgiving or Christmas. On the plant health side of things, I wouldn’t cut off ANY flowers until they die. Then just dead head as they start to die off.

Should I be repoting the Calandiva? If so, when is the best time for repoting?

I would always repot non homegrown plants because they typically come in that cheap plastic container and it isn’t the best for your plants in general. (Id eventually repot any plants to prevent them from getting root bound but my point remains) As to when the best time to repot your darling, I would do it around spring.

The growers may have forced bloomed so they will sell this time of year. Just follow the care instructions you find online or through the Planta app. Good light and not overwatering will help it thrive.

I agree with the previous comments. Mine is blooming now too. I just enjoy them and then dead head them

What do you mean by “dead head them”. As in just cut them off?

Just cut off the dead flowers and leave the stems they were on
