Hi!! I’ve had this succulent for a couple of years now and i just noticed today that the stem has turned a black color. This must’ve just happened because during it’s last watering day the stem was green. Is it salvageable? Any suggestions?

It looks very leggy, and that is due to low light. My advice is to chop the plant right above the black rot and let the good portion sit out for a few days. Then sick it back in the soil(after removing all the blackened bits) and it will grow roots. Although I recommend moving it to a bright sunny window sill. The more sun the better!

thank you so much! i’m definitely doing this!!
0 LikesI think it is rotting. But don’t worry you can save him!! Just get so scissors. And cut right above the black rotted part. Look at the cut if in the stem still has some black, cut just a little off. And keep doing that until you see only white tissue. Then let the cut scab over. And plant it in soil and water it to get roots.

This is maybe way more input than you want, so take it or leave it :) but I’ve been doing a lot of succulent rescues lately and this is just what has worked for me. It looks like this little guy needs more sunlight, which is why he’s stretched out and reaching towards the window. With less light it’s easier for them to become overwatered and develop root rot. Since succulents store water in their leaves their downfall is very slow and you may not even know it’s happening. The black stem can’t be saved, so my suggestion would be to chop off the top (see pic) and pop that into some moist succulent soil, then water it only every couple of weeks. It should grow new roots and begin a second life! Then you can also pluck off the leaves from the long stem and set them on a dry bed of soil and wait a couple months, and at least some of them may turn into new succulent babes! And I would keep both of those things right in the window. If you try any of this, I hope it goes well for you! Good luck to the little guy!
