I live in Central Texas, where it is very hot right now (high 90s, 100s). Can this guy tolerate that kind of heat and a couple hours of direct sun, or should I keep it inside?

Hmmm. Is he normally outside? If so then I think he would be ok, maybe water a little more frequent. If he is used to being inside I would not put him out in the heat.

I just bought it today. It was outside in the shade, but I’m not sure it was out there too long.

In order to acclimate him, put him outside in the shade for a few hours a day, increasing how long he’s out there every few days. After a few weeks, if nothing changes and he still looks good, put him outside in the sun for a few hours a day and move him back to the shade for the rest of the day. After you’ve done this for a few more weeks, he should be able to stay outside in the sun full time! Lmk if you have any questions, it was difficult to explain.

I live in Southern UT (it’s normally 90s to 100s about this time of year) and I’ve put a couple of my succulents out on my balcony where it gets partial direct sun and they’ve been good so far! Just make sure you keep an eye on them throughout the day - acclimating would be good if the plant hasn’t really been outside before too.
