Help, succulents don’t like me! My friend gifted me this donkey tail succulent, she was in a much fuller condition. Once I got it I transferred her into a clear plastic pot, SHE WAS NOT ADJUSTING! She’s started giving out due to me I believe I overwatered her. I repotted her again & examined her, roots were rotted & the stem was slowly rotting. So trimmed the rotted roots & stem. Once I did that I took off the little buds from the bottom about 1in or less of it. So I potted her in dry soil and gave her a few sprays. I know absolutely nothing about succulents propagating. Theses are my questions Should I have completely watered it ? How often should I water it? Will the stem grow roots? The buds, how do I propagate those?

Does it have drainage holes? That could be the reason why you overwatered it

They may just be stressed, too. Make sure you watch a few videos or read a few books before getting some new plants. I usually make a rule; before I get a plant, I must watch three videos, and read at least one article.

Get it out of the PLASTIC. They need to breathe and the over watering will cause rot because the roots stay saturated. When roots swell they become damaged and it does not allow the plant to absorb the moisture or nutrients it becomes a vicious circle as you keep adding more water thinking the plant is dry.

My succulents seem to do well in terra cotta pots since it helps the soil to dry. Between using succulent mix and terra cotta in a well-lit window, that should help.

Soil needs to be completely dry before watering. More drainage at bottom. I water mine once a month.
