Joined because of these little guys. Not sure about the identification (another app said Ghost plants) but they’re succulents I got for my birthday a year ago. Well, the smaller one almost immediately keeled over before deciding it wanted to live after all, and the larger one did great through the summer and winter but then started dropping leaves as soon as I put it outside last week. I don’t want to keep them in under the grow light though because they’ve started stretching out. Any idea what I can do to keep these guys healthy?

I would snip off the top from the highest leaf up. Then take off the larger leaves (use those to propagate). Let everything sit out for 2-3 days and callous up. Then repot the top sniped piece. And lay the leaves out on some cactus soil. Water sparingly and keep them in that window.

Oh and then snip down close but not too close to the soil and see if it won’t regrow from the existing plant and roots.

In theory it sounds good. In practice every leaf I’ve tried to propagate from either shrivels up into a husk within two days, whether I plant it straight into the soil or leave it out or what. I’ve got a whole bowl full of successful propagations from my other plants, but these ones absolutely refuse to survive. If I can’t figure out what’s causing them trouble, snipping will probably just kill them for good.

Some propagation just doesn’t ever bud, and I’ve had similar luck to you. I saw a YouTube video about using a plastic boot mat and succulent soil to put the leaves on; mist every other day and keep under the grow light. It took a couple months but I have pups on my leaves from a plant like your taller one. Mine is labeled ghost plant and I’m treating it as such. It’s etiolated but the leaves are doing well. I didn’t cut the stems down, but put the plant under a grow light directly and it started growing buds tight together at the top. I didn’t want to risk killing the plant entirely by cutting it down. Now that I have more confidence and research, I may cut them down and see how it goes. Good luck to you!
