Mayflower

Does anyone have thoughts on how to help this guy? I am an orchid gal so this guy is a bit out of my comfort zone. I’ve had it two years now and have repotted it twice each time increasing the diameter so it can spread out. It has a layer of sand and stones as drainage in the bottom. It grows very long and stalky. It sits in a window with good sun and light (full sun about 6 hours).

How often have you been watering it? And you could try misting it every couple of days. I’m a succulent gal*, and that has worked for me! *Im good with succulents because it’s hard for me to keep any other plant alive lol

I’ve been watering it every 16th day per Planta. I do mist it but i don’t often because I don’t know ifs that’s ok for it! I appreciate your help!

No problem! You actually might want to water it a little less, because succulents are pretty resilient and are used to deserts and hot dry places. They can take it don’t worry!! P.S. put it in a place where cats can’t reach it if you have any, because my cat looooves knocking my succulents off the shelf😂

if you’re not a fan of the leggy look, it’s time to chop and prop! there’s tons of great articles about the best way to do it, but it’s super easy. just takes a little time and patience :) also i couldn’t tell by your description, but does the pot have drainage holes? those are **key** with succulents!!!

Good to know thank you. I’ll look into that. When I first got it, it was wider and very full. I’m definitely not a big fan of the leggy look! The pot does not have drainage holes no. I used a pot I already had. It was a really tall pot so I put stones and sand layered to help but that may not be enough.

I love Perle Von Nurnburgs!❤️ They love lots of sun. From my experience, windows don’t provide full sun since the glass is in the way. It obviously goes through, but diffuses it some. Here are my babies that have been growing in the window over winter and really want some sun. They are showing mild stretching and not coloring up fully. Yours is purpler than my little ones so it is definitely getting more sun, but the stretching is the plant telling you it needs more light. They really need the dirt to dry up fully between waterings and only need more water when the bottom leaves feel softer. The roots are smaller than the plant is wide so you could put it in a much smaller pot when you replant it to one with drainage holes. With succulents, sometimes the bigger pot holds water further than their roots can reach so they are always in damp soil, which they hate. Also, if your pot has an inner pot like it looks like, you can water it in the sink and put it back in the outer pot after it stops dripping to keep it from sitting in water. Since they store water in their leaves, they don’t need to store water in the dirt.
