Does anyone have some advice/help for my fish bone cactus? It’s growing well and such, but it is getting some wrinkles on some of the stalks. I think it is under watering cause the soil gets bone dry in between watering (I’m watering according to planta). Online it says to let it dry out then to water it, and it needs more watering than other succulents. Is planta wrong?

When you water it drown it. Let the water flow through it maybe even a few times before allowing it to dry. Sometimes the cactus/succulent mix gets so compressed that the pot will drain but the soil doesn’t have a chance to rehydrate (I dont like bottom watering either ) Hopefully I explained that well enough. “Drown that hoe!” Lol ^@Plantswithkrystal- follow her on FB!

One issue… I don’t actually have drainage holes on the pot. I know that’s not good but I really like the pot XD

If you want to keep using the pretty pot, just get a plastic pot with drainage holes to repot inside. Get one to fit inside the pretty pot and pull it out to water.

Is it really a big deal to leave it be though? I don’t want to give it potting shock. The pot is pretty big and water evaporates really fast where I live. I have fish and I don’t have to ever empty the tank just fill it cause it always evaporates. I checked the bottom soil and it was bone dry even though I watered it recently. Are drainage holes needed? It seems fine.

If the water doesn’t penetrate through you’ll get hydrophobic soil where the roots need it most. The roots won’t get enough water if the water just sits on top. This is why it’s shriveled and looking this way. You asked for help and I recommend repotting it. I dont know of a single plant that won’t die in a pot without drainage. It might take them a while but they will eventually die.

Planta is supposed to be a guide. Just bc it may say to water something, you go off the condition of the soil. Apps are generic guidelines. When succulents gets wrinkly, it’s bc they’re thirsty.
