Please help a girl out🫣 all my other succulents are doing fine but my Gollum is looking all shrivelled up and brown on the tips? It is placed on a south facing windowsill which has a decent amount of direct sunlight (it has been really warm here over the last week or two) so I’m thinking it’s too much sunlight? But I read that they are full sun plants so I’m not sure? All my other succulents are thriving in that window?

well I see it’s getting a suntan which is fine — I doubt very much it’s too much sun, that’s hard to do with a succulent like this behind a window. Could it be thirsty? It looks a bit shriveled

It could be that it’s thirsty, I only water it once a week like all the others but do you think I should water more often? I could’ve sworn I read somewhere that they should only be watered every 2-3 weeks but the soil goes bone dry after about 3 days…

On another note, it was gifted to me by a friend and it had absolutely zero roots so it’ll be growing roots rn hopefully, so maybe that’s why it might need more water than the others? Idk

once a week is probably too much so it could be that it’s rotting? if it had no roots and you’re watering every week you’re likely overwatering

It seems to dry out after just a couple days though? Like bone dry all the way to the bottom? Should I just leave it dried out instead of watering?

well you said it’s been very hot right? so it could be that the soil is drying from the heat, not because the plant has been able to use it. when you have very little roots is about the only time i recommend misting. because you have a root issue, i dont rec bottom watering yet because your plant isn’t able to make use of the resources. I would mist the surface of the soil every couple of days — if what’s happening is that your plant is dehydrating because it’s trying to root, you might be better off leaving it to that. it might get uglier before it gets better…

It looks like a watering issue. Always remove your plant from the ceramic pot. Check both the top and bottom of the soil to ensure it is dry. Then, water the plant generously, wait a few minutes until it drains well, and finally, place it back in the decorative pot. If the soil is drying out quickly, I recommend bottom watering to ensure even water absorption. PD: In this case, I recommend checking the roots before any treatment. If there's any rot, it's better to replace the soil. If the substrate is simply dry, then you should proceed with bottom watering.

The soil seems to be bone dry a couple days after I water.. I’ve tried bottom watering but it doesn’t seem to absorb very well, maybe I need a better soil mix?

This advice works and is great for an established plant. This is essentially a cutting because it has no roots, per the plant owner. It’s shriveled because it’s using up its stored water to survive. Water is drying fast from the soil like a cactus mix. Plus, warm room temperatures are likely increasing the evaporation rate.
