Random question… Are succulents edible? I ask this because when propagating my succulent it smelled like freshly cut lettuce. 🤷‍♀️ I mean I know there are edible flowers too. Maybe the succulent’s flowers are edible????? Maybe they’re both poisonous and I shouldn’t put them in my mouth 😂😅. M

I wouldn’t risk it without doing research and being certain. But I had a succulent that I was trying to grow on my porch until the squirrels ate it 😅 So I guess they’re at least edible to squirrels 😂

I wasn’t planning on eating any 😄, just wondering. Haha, guess they liked it 🤷‍♀️ 😆

Now watch the squirrels be all “elevated” and didn’t even leave (leaf ? 😁) us a note warning us that succulents are “spicy”

I know one succulent that is used for medicine and food ingredient in South Korea, not a common ingredient but still pretty well known within S.Korea- "Orostachys Japonica ('Wasong' in Korean)". I've heard/seen salads, smoothies, teas, etc.... never had it myself though 😅

The Nopal or prickly pear cactus is edible and is often used in Mexican cuisine. My mother continues to eat them daily and I grew up eating them. You can eat the pink fruit and the pads from the plant, but you’ll have to remove the spines first.

More examples of edible succulents: dragonfruit and Aloe vera! Some toxic succulents: euphorbias, crassulas, peyote
