Zebra plants are so adorable!! I water mine every 16 days when his soil is dry, and heās been very happy. He even grew a flower this past summer & I didnāt know they could do that! š„°
2 J'aimeAnother tip - They will start to turn red when theyāre getting too much sun. Multiple succulents will do this to let us know. How cool is that?!
2 J'aimeOMG š± I didnāt know that they grew flowers!!! Thank you Iāll keep your tips in mind ā¤ļø
1 j'aimeWOW thank you so much for this! Plants šŖ“ really do talk to us, we just have to learn the language, Iāve had 3 China Doll plants over a course of 3 years and I was always unsuccessful with them but I loved the plant so much I decided to give it another try, and I listened and itās been thriving ever since š¤š½ā¤ļø
1 j'aimeI am a succulent enthusiast. Well over 100. Depending on how deep you want to go, I can give you a few suggestions. Left is a haworthia zebra. Right may be an Aloe Oik. Pic is my Oik when it gets abundant light. Iām not sure what the back plant is. I looked at the label but am not familiar with the plant listed. In general you only water when the entire pot of soil is dry. Then you drench till water drains from bottom. Soil is important also. Needs to be fast draining. I use Jacks Gritty Mix as my base. Then add some regular potting soil. Percentage depends on plant. The Oik needs lots of bright light, even sun. Haworthia can get by with less but still needs bright light. For beginners I always suggest shallow terracotta pots. They help alleviate overwatering. And shallow because most have shallow roots. Deeper pot is probably ok for the zebra. Pic is an example of my soil. Not much organic. Hope this helps. My Planta is public. Take a look.
2 J'aimeThe one in the back is a Crassula itās velvety leaves and was much fuller when I bought it but some leaves have fallen off š Iāll definitely take your advice about shallower pots š¤ Iām just not confident with repotting Iāve lost succulents when I did, should I keep them in the nursery pots for now? And I live in New York and the weather is cold now. Thank you for your advice and support ā¤ļø
0 J'aimeThe crassula may be a mesembryanthemoides. Repotting should not be an issue. I repot mine anytime of year. Nursery pots always come with the incorrect soil for succulents. They use soil to promote fast growth in young plants and it is much cheaper. Jacks Gritty is available at Amazon. Add in about 20% regular potting mix. That should be a great soil mix for these guys. Only water when the entire pot is completely dry. The leaves may feel a little soft and rubbery. One more thing, they need a lot more light. Thatās why the crassula is dropping leaves. Their care is very different from tropicals. All you know about tropicals will not work for these guys. I have lots of grow lights for my succulents. Neighbors have asked if Iām preparing to land planes in the street.
1 j'aimeOMG š± How beautiful!!!!! š šš I could only imagine!! Thank you for the kind advice š¤
