I was given this cactus a few months ago and the bottom part of it is brown. Any idea what is going on with it?

    Probably some kind of pest or disease

    just looks like scabbing from a sunburn, which only affects the look of the plant. also could be scabbing from scraping against something. plants can get bruises just like people. but if you notice it get yellow spots and feel squishy, it would be overwatering.
