My wife got this Eve’s Needle last summer, and left it in an area with very minimal light, leading to etiolation. I kidnapped it around November and have been giving it about 14 hours per day under a grow light (better grow light than in the photo..it was temporarily moved). Anyway…it’s growing nicely…and very dramatic (not always leaning over). My question is….is there a possibility that it will thicken over time, or is it doomed to be thin at the top? Hoping to have the entire stalk thicken so that it doesn’t lean from time to time (usually when moved to a new location).

    I have no idea, and I haven't had one of those plants before. I love it so much though!

    Hmmm I think only the new growth will be thick .. The stalk will show the timeline lol

    No, sadly, an Eve’s needle cactus or any cactus that has stretched due to a lack of light will not thicken or shrink back to its normal shape even after light corrections. The damage is permanent. To restore a healthy shape, the standard method is to cut off the stretched portion in spring or summer. After the cut, the mother plant will produce new, healthy pups, and the cut piece can often be rooted to create a new, properly shaped plant. Also, when moving a light-starved plant to a brighter spot, do it gradually over 1-2 weeks to avoid sunburning the newly exposed, weak tissue. If left as is, the thin part will remain weak, and may eventually cause the cactus to fall over under the weight of new, healthier growth.
