My Hoyas aren’t growing. I have two and they’ve basically stayed the same size since the day I bought them. I replanted both of them to more chunky soils, I followed the plant to advice on watering and they are both under a grow light for 12 hours a day. Could it be that since I live in a tropical environment the humidity which is normally in the 80s is too much for them? It’s like they are both in hibernation. Please help 🙏
How strong is the grow light? I am surprised by how much light my hoyas want... One is directly in a SE window and loves it. When it was less than a meter out of that window, it only put out 2 leaves in 3 months.

yess! all of mine get direct sunlight all day or live under sansi 36w bulbs! they also like to be rather tight in their pots, so smaller is better

Pests can slow them down too- I’ve had root mealies in plants I called statue plants since they never did anything. 🫣

Hoyas are naturally from more tropical climates like rainforests, so I definitely don’t think the humidity is the problem. Hoyas are known to be very slow-growing, but if you recently repotted them, it is possible they’re simply working on adjusting to the repot before growing anything new. What I’ve gathered from mine is that they tend to grow a little faster when fertilized, when more snug in their pots (in a pot no more than 1-2 inches wider than the width of the Hoya’s root ball), in well-draining cactus or epiphytic soil mixes (I use Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for mine), and by allowing them to almost completely to completely dry out between waterings. They look to be perfectly healthy from your photos, so the only thing I would suggest is perhaps trying to put them in smaller pots (but only a few weeks to a month after they’ve settled from the last repot, otherwise you’re at risk of shocking the plant from another repot). 0 likes And if you’re looking for any fertilizer recommendations, I use Osmocote Slow-Release Fertilizer Pellets. Depending on the type you buy, they can last for 3-6 months, and I replace them when repotting my plants. It’s an easy way to add fertilizer to plants if you’re new to fertilizing and don’t want to deal with a strict fertilizing schedule. You can always add them to the top of the soil after repotting as well.
