I have a light for seasonal affective disorder but haven’t been using it because it’s summer and the sun is out for longer. The light itself is too bright to shine directly on plants so I folded one of my shawls over twice to allow the light to softly filter through and shine less intensely on my plant :)

That’s definitely a super duper idea! I have an old light box, if I can find it. Will it work like a regular plant light if I covered it like you did? TIA. 😊💚🪴

From the research I’ve done, it seems some plants like artificial light more than others. I can’t speak on whether it works the same as a grow light as I’ve never had one of those—have lots of plants in windows—but since this zz plant is in my windowless bathroom, I figured I’d give this a try instead of bringing it to the window every little bit. My SAD light can stay on for up to an hour and I reset it when it goes out to make sure that my plant is receiving a decent amount of light. Thankfully, ZZ plants are pretty low maintenance so mine hasn’t had any complaints yet lol

It depends a lot on the light intensity as well. Since SAD lights are so bright, I thought I’d try to tone it down a bit. Mesh didn’t do much, but this cotton knit shawl worked wonders.
