šŸŒ± Plant question šŸŒ± Iā€™ve got myself a moisture meter to check the soil moisture levels of my plantsā€¦ Itā€™s telling me that all of my plants are dry ā€” which has left me wondering whether I should be watering based on what the meter is saying, or whether I should just stick to my Planta app, which keeps track of when I last watered each plant šŸŖ“ What do you guys use? šŸ‘€ Would you trust the moisture meter, or go by the Planta app? And if you use a moisture meter, do you find them accurate? šŸŒæšŸ’§ Let me know because I donā€™t want to accidentally love my plants to death with too much water! šŸ˜‚

    The moisture meter is probably more accurate then the planta app, the planta app doesnā€™t know exactly when your plants will need water (because itā€™s just an estimate) and thatā€™s why itā€™s easy to overwater not just using planta but any watering schedule.

      My most difficult issue. So scared to overwater my plants like I have done in the past šŸ˜­ but thank you, will see how it goes with the meter reading šŸ˜ŠšŸ’ššŸŒ±

    I don't trust the app or moisture meters. A finger or chopstick is the only reliable way to check a plant's soil imo. The app can't feel the dirt the way you can and moisture meters read electrical conductance, not the amount of water in the soil.

      This is a reddit comment that I've had bookmarked for a few years; very informative and simple to understand. I've sent it to several friends and family members who think they need to spend money on fancy tools to keep their plants happy lol

    I use a meter (looks very much like yours in the picture). Iā€™ve questioned the meter and check multiple areas in the pot. But it has never gone one way or the other on all my plants. I might confirm with my finger if I questioned it. But for the most part, I rely on my meter.

    I bought like three different meters when I was getting started because I knew I wasnā€™t getting accurate info. I killed quite a few babies that way. I gave up on them particularly with chunky soil plants. Use a chopstick or your finger to make sure Planta is accurate. After a few modifications by snoozing when necessary, etc and the app will get it pretty close.

    I use a metre like that but check in a few parts of the pot and I wipe dry between plants. Not had an issue with my plants but I do have a lot of tropicals that like to be 100% dry before watering. Some of my more water demanding Iā€™m still trying to find the balance on when to water. I use the app to tell me when to check (unless the plant is dropping) and then the metre to confirm. Iā€™ve never had success with the chopstick method but my dyslexic brain canā€™t understand the instructions.

    I donā€™t know anything about that kind of moisture stick, but these from Amazon are very accurate and about five for $22 I think. I wait until they start turning white and then I double check with my finger and sometimes I wait an extra day. But these are pretty reliable!
