Would love any pro tips anyone can offer a ficus elastica newbie. Just got her for $7 at my pet store 😂 couldn’t pass her up. Thanks in advance! (She’s got multiple names in her ID because I haven’t picked one for her yet)

    They’re toxic to pets, so it’s kind of ironic you got it from a pet store 😂 she’s a cutie though! I like to chop the top off mine when they’re small to encourage branching, because they get top heavy and topple easily if you let them grow as one long stem.

      They’re toxic to dogs, from my knowledge, but I believe they’re safe for other animals like reptiles, thus the section for plants in their enclosures. I thought that was funny too, though. But hey, if they’re not safe for them either, then I’m saving an animal too. Totally didn’t just go in there for a plant 😗

    I did this a few weeks ago and started seeing some new growth. But I will warn you, sometimes they just grow one “arm” instead of 2 đŸ€Ł

      And thanks for the tip! That’s good to know! They get their plants from a local nursery, but they really have no clue what they’re doing once they buy them. I found the plants at the front entrance with the reptile enclosures in a POOL (so the employees don’t have to water them often, I’m guessing). And the plants were all in soaking wet soil. It’s a miracle they haven’t attracted anything more than garden spiders from my viewing. I’m actually planning on applying for a job there, 1. To save the plants, 2. To save the PETS from the plants. And 3. I know too much about animals and plants for my own good and it wouldn’t hurt to be paid for it
and get an employee discount 👀

      Np! I’ve had mine for about a year now. He’s pretty easy. He just finished his “sentence” living in my work cubicle, and got to come home. He’s been under a grow light and overhead LEDs this whole time. I’ve heard a few people say their ficus tineke doesn’t grow at all until it gets adjusted, so don’t be alarmed if that happens!

      😂 love the “sentence” joke. I recently gave my cousin an aglaonema that was doing fantastic at my house, and now it’s not doing so hot since she moved it to her office. And good to know. I heard they can be a little finicky at first with some and slow growers, so I’ll try not to stress. 😼‍💹

      Me too! I kinda miss the aglaonema, tbh. She was so low-maintenance đŸ€§ her name’s Terry.
