Hello!! I just got gifted two ceramic clay pots and they do not have drainage holes. I am too afraid/don’t know how to put holes in it without ruining the pot. Any advice for pots that don’t have any holes and how to best keep your plant from rotting when watered?
I’m not sure if you could drill holes in a ceramic pot, but what I would try is maybe get one of those nursery pots that is a similar size (if it’s too tall cut off the excess) and then every time I go to water just take it out and let it drain outside of the ceramic pot. I’ve never tried this personally though so I’m not sure if it’ll work.

If I was you I would buy diamond drill bit to drill wholes in it. Yes it’s safe to do on ceramic you just need a bit of water. You can find the bit at Home Depot.

I don't drill, I use nursery pots and then use the nice ones for outside. Though my husband is dying to drill test one 😄

I use a carbide bit to drill holes in my clay & ceramic pots. Works great. Got it at my ACE Hardware store.

Like ahlissuh, I use them as cache pots. I'll place my plant potted in a similar sized plastic pot inside the ceramic ones.
3 J'aimeIf you choose to drill them, PRACTICE FIRST! Drilling is fairly straightforward once you get the hang of it, but you have a high chance of breaking the first thing you try it on. Get some cheap scraps of similar material to drill a few holes on just to work out any issues. (Garden centers often have scraps since a few pots always manage to break there. Just ask about it and they'll probably let you take from their garbage)
