Please help! Does this plant have root rot? Is it dying? I’m so new to all this I just want to keep her alive

    The flower spike is dying back, which is normal. If you cut it above a node, you might get a rebloom. (If the stem stays green, it can reuse it next bloom. If it dries to brown, you can cut it off.) It looks like that lowest leaf is also going, but that is likely age rather than rot

      A node is a point on the plant that serves as a starting point for all growth. Each node can make roots, leaves, or flowers, and what is most likey to come out depends on plant species and growing conditions. On an orchid, there are two types of node, one type is in the crown/main stem, and makes leaves or roots. The other node type is in the flower spike, and makes flowers or baby orchids. The nodes on the flower spike look like little nubs, or the spots where the flowers branch outwards. When plants die back, they always stop at a live node and then new growth comes from the same node. By cutting close above a live node, you can prevent further die-back, and increase the odds of it branching from that spot. Cut where I've marked, right above the live node. (The blue arrows point out nodes for you)
