I’m not an Alocasia frydek expert and could use advice on switching from Fluval Stratum to another substrate. It was in chunky soil but kept losing leaves and never grew. I moved it to Stratum in a mini greenhouse, and it was down to just a stump and roots before bouncing back. I know Stratum isn’t ideal long term, so I’m planning to move to Lechuza Pon but worry about transfer shock undoing its progress. Has anyone made this switch successfully? Any tips to make it easier on the plant? Thank you!

    There shouldn't be any major shock between those two medium. They're basically same thing. Ypu could mix water stratum in the pot, with the pon. And next repot go full pon. But I've had good luck even going from chunky mix to pon woth alocasia. The only time I lost a plant was to a mold issue from the opened bag of pon I used.

      This is super helpful!! Do you use root crack (as I call it to help with transfer shock)? And last question, when do you normally cut off your flowers? Once you see them, after bloom, or once it starts dying off? Thank you!

      I do use Mycorrhizal, I prefer powder or liquid over granules. I think they distribute better. It honestly depends when I cut back inflorescence. If its an alocasia I like big, I cut them back after they form. If its something I plan to fertilize and i get inflos lined up, obviously I leave them. The longer you leave them, the more energy the plant puts into them. So if you arent going to use them, best to cut them.

      That’s what I use. I just didn’t know the name until I found the bag lol. Final question, when do you know it’s time to switch from fluval stratum to pon? Does it matter or should I wait until the stratum reaches a certain point? Thank you again!

      Like I said, there isn't a huge difference. I use stratum in some of my mixes, like anthurium and alocasia, I also start most plants in it. I make my own PON mix as well, and it has stratum in it, as i find it beneficial. If you fertilize, especially liquid, there's no reason I can think of to change out the stratum for pon. Unless that type of plant did better in a soil based or chunkier mix
