I’m planning on repotting soon, and wanted to know if what yall like to use for your pot mix? The brands, etc. I want to make a big batch but also don’t want to spend an arm and leg.

    Definitely going to depend on the type of plant. For Hoyas, Philos and Pothos, I mix equal parts African Violet or Tropical soil, with orchid bark and perlite.

    I usually do a big batch of a “base”. It’s usually about 1.5-2 bags of dirt, 1 bag of orchard bark and 1 bag of perlite but then I have extra orchard bark and or perlite on hand to mix more appropriately for different plant needs.

    For large repot projects, I’ll tend to make my own dirt mix to save money. Similar to what others do. I’ll do a mixture of top soil, orchid bark, mycelium spores, bio char, perlite, and large LECA balls. (The mycelium spots and biochar help enrich the soil, provide nutrients, and support microfauna that keep roots healthy). Depending on the plant, I’ll either use more orchid bark/LECA or less. For example, Aeroid plants like pothos, monstera, etc like more breathable soil; so, I’ll use more bark/LECA to create larger chunks. I’ll mix this all together in batches until it looks like a good mixture. Only need small amounts of mycelium spores & biochar. If working with perlite, be sure to wear a dust mask (medical mask won’t work) because that dust can be very damaging to your lungs. I find this soil mixture supports rapid plant growth and lasts a long time. This mixture cost me ~$100-$150, but gave wayyyy more dirt for my plants than $100-$150 worth of brand plant soil. Good long term investment. Best of luck!
