Sharing some experience/wisdom/foibles re: my Zygo/Thanksgiving cactus, for anyone interested đ {TL;DR} I repotted in a pot that was too big, Iâve been monitoring some problems over the past few months, I am putting her back into TC Due for a repot in early spring, I moved her from terra cotta into this awesome pot & new soil after a 3rd successful (& better than ever) bloom year. I noticed a little bit of shock from the repot, but otherwise an easy transition. After about a month I was noticing that this big pot was hanging onto water much longer than I (or my plant) would prefer. I was watering much less frequently, and as it got sunnier & warmer I should have been headed the other way. I gave it a bit more time thinking it could just need more time for more roots. Now, Iâm still not watering as often as this plant would like, and Iâm noticing the new growth is starting to show signs of stress (pictured) so itâs time to ditch the âawesomeâ pot and get her back into TC. The holiday cactuses are epiphytes, so Iâll be adding plenty of flaky bark & some perlite to my usual FF Ocean Forest base medium & cross my fingers for another beautiful bloom in November. If I boil it down to where I specifically went wrong, I think the new pot was simply too big & the wrong material. The same size in TC probably would have been fine, as the TC allows better drying, but this pot is some kind of non-porous plaster-type material and there just arenât enough roots to make use of the water. There are always lessons to be learned in plant keeping â one of the reasons I love this hobby so much! If you made it to the end of this Iâm glad youâre here & hope you learned something đ
