I just bought this zz plant from Walmart and would like to know what type of soil is best for when I get ready to repot. I’m a new plant parent, so I’m not too sure on what type of soil is currently being used. I do know we just had a storm for 3 days, and the soil is very wet still. I actually had to empty some of the water myself before checking out due to it being overfilled. I have heard zz’s prefer to be “neglected” only watered when completely dry. I would appreciate all suggestions!

    you got it right!! i would recommend a succulent/cactus mix, probably a chunkier soil to allow for proper drainage! They do kinda like to be ignored/neglected, but they do need some light (a lot of people assume they can live in darkness). does the pot that it’s in now have drainage holes? if not i’d recommend repotting soon to avoid root rot 👍🏼 you got this! the plant looks gorgeous

      forgot to add- i live in a cool humid environment in the southern PNW, so i only water mine like once a month, maybe every month and a half depending on how it’s doing

      The pot doesn’t have drainage holes, but it does have the nursery pot inside as well which has holes. The pot itself says “self watering” which I don’t much understand that, as the water just sits in the bottom. Which is why I plan to repot as soon as possible. Thank you for your help!

      of course!! and i know that’s such weird wording, i have a few plants in decorative pots like that and i just take them out and put them in the sink during and after watering
