Hi, so I recently brought a SOP from a garden centre that was reduced and some of it was dead but the hanging vines were still green and healthy, I originally thought it had died due to under watering but when I got it home and started to cut it for Propagation I noticed a few dead small pests on it and it was sticky so I googled it and found out that an infestation causes the stickiness and also this black mold. I have washed it and there aren't any pests on there anymore but stems keep dying as seen in the photo. The pearls are still green and normally from my experience when a plant is dying from dehydration the pearls will shrivel up first but here that isn't the case so I'm wondering wether there is something else going on with the plant that I'm not aware of.

    The only success I’ve had with propagating SOP was by using soil. They tend to rot if the pearls are touching water. I fill a shallow container with succulent soil mix, water and then gently press the SOP into the soil. Put it in bright indirect light and water when the soil is dry

      I've had success with SOH in the perlite but I've never tried in perlite with SOP so should I change is to sol? I didn't use soil before because keeping it wet makes the fungus knats lay in it

    If they keep dying I would put some in soil, use mosquito bits to prevent/get rid of any fungus gnats. Follow instructions on the package and you shouldn’t have any.

      Ok thank you, I ended up leaving them in perlite and they were fine and then I planted them into the pot with the rest of my string of pearls and well I'll let the photo do the talking. The white is rooting powder

      Thank you 😊. It's always rewarding but when things dye it's sad but also a learning experience because you can figure out what made them dye and try to avoid it next time
