   Either method works just make sure your soil is completely dry before watering and water the plant until it’s fully saturated. The pot should feel significantly heavier.

     So only spraying the top layer of soil that has the roots shouldn't be done?

   I personally don’t do that, they don’t need frequent watering. Also they have tubers in the soil that store water so i only water when the hearts are pliable.
