Relatively new plant parent. I currently do not have any bugs. But should I proactively spray every new plant I bring in? I don’t really want to wait until I see them. I’d rather keep them away from the get go. Also, what are your tried and true insecticides? I’m horrified at the thought of some wackadoodle insect outbreak.
I recommend mosquito bits or dunks. Chuck one into your water pail and replace when it’s gone.

Luv your plant tower. Where did you get it? A diluted alcohol/soapw spray on my plants has helped me control scales.

0 Mi piace Hobby lobby. I’ve had them for years. I’ve always had orchids and those sat in the corners of my kitchen so they could get all the light. The tiers were good for small and big ones. And now that I’ve expanded my collection to other plants it’s definitely working for them too. I also have tiered corner shelf from At Home in my bedroom that I want to move to the living room for more plants.
1 mi piace The scales love the he ferns. They don’t seem to attack the other plants. It’s constant battle with the scales. I’ve gotten the scale infestation down but I can’t seem to eradicate them. If I stop treating the plants for more than a couple of weeks, the scales start to appear again. It’s the hard, brown scales.

I would quarantine any new plants for a month before exposing them to your current collection, and designate a space for them to quarantine where they’ll still get enough light, but have the distance from the other plants so that if there is a pest or fungal infection that could spread, it remains isolated to only one plant. Hope this helps.

As for spraying new plants, I use Bonide Insecticidal Soap. I rarely use neem oil because I have damaged a few succulents with it.
0 Mi piaceIf you want to quarantine with no chance of insects getting out into the house, you could get a mosquito net or butterfly enclosure to put new plants in. If insects come out, they'll be stuck in the net and easy to kill or move outside
